WORKSHOPS

Mending Workshops in Totnes

Mending by Hand Workshops

TOTNES - Palmer By Design, 103b High Street, Totnes, TQ9 5SN

Next Date: To Be Announced - probably last Tuesday in September

Time: 10:00-12:00

Cost: £25 per person

Your clothes tell your story, keep your memories and show the craft of the maker. When these items start to wear out or you accidentally tear them there are plenty of ways to rescue them and make them look even more interesting. That way you can keep wearing them and keep them from being discarded prematurely.

You will be learning the following hand sewing techniques:-

  • Embellishing stains with embroidery

  • Stitching over worn areas with Boro technique

  • Replacing hemline topstitch

  • Patching techniques

  • Sewing on a button professionally

  • Different types of seams

This session will involve slow stitching by hand which is a mindful and relaxing practice

needing very little equipment and no noisy machines. This provides an opportunity for conversation around the table.

I will provide some fabric scraps and embroidery threads.

What to bring:

Bring your basket of repairs and we will work through it.

Bring your own scissors, needles and threads.
